Welcome to Gulfport, the creative heart of Pinellas County.

Gulfport is situated in the southern part of Pinellas County. North and east is St. Petersburg. To the west is South Pasadena and St. Pete Beach. Further south is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay, Bradenton, Sarasota, and Venice. Further east, across the bay is Ruskin, and Apollo Beach. Northeast is Tampa, Lakeland, Ocala, and Orlando. North of St. Petersburg lies Largo, Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs.

Gulfport is considered to be the "Art Colony" of Pinellas County. Colorful homes, beautiful bayfront on Boca Ciega Bay, and a very vibrant community make Gulfport a particularly nice place to live. Amenities here are many and diverse; fishing, hiking, biking, theatres (presentation and cinema), libraries, shopping, parks, wildlife, serenity, relaxation, dining, and easy driving distances to several world class amusement parks and airports.

Coastal Florida has a unique climate. The ocean effects keep us cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter due to our proximity to water.

Many of our visitors come for the fishing. A common problem seems to be the difficulty in identifying the various species of fish that populate our region. The Fish Ratings page will be of great value in learning about our local piscines.

Central Florida is home to a large and diverse group of wildlife. Avians, mammals, insects, etc. The backyard is usually a foraging and/or nesting area for red bellied woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers, pileated woodpeckers, cardinals, mockingbird, brown thrasher, catbird, blue jay, scrub jay, chickadee, wren, gnatcatchers, vireo, dove, red shouldered hawk, red tailed hawk, sapsucker, kestrel, kite, nightjar, fish crow, great egret, snowy egret, cattle egret, great blue heron, yellow crowned night heron, black crowned night heron, stork, roseate spoonbill, hummingbird, shrike, green parrot, limpkin, white ibis, great horned owl, barred owl, screech owl, and other birdlife.

In the animal world, we have red fox, gray fox, coyote, lynx, armadillo, raccoon, opossum, and gray squirrel. Insects share our world here. They range from the super pest fire ant to several beautiful species of butterfly. Plants here can be quite bright and colorful. Some plant is always blooming.
